‘Pressure’s going to be on’ – Paul Merson predicts result of Spurs vs Man City

Paul Merson has backed Manchester City to overcome Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday and maintain the pressure on Arsenal at the top of the table.

Spurs will take on Man City for the second time in little over two weeks on Sunday but this time in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a ground where Pep Guardiola’s men have a poor record.

For the first time in many months, Antonio Conte might have a fully fit squad to choose from, with Lucas Moura taking to Instagram earlier this week to confirm that he is back in training.

The game could also see a Premier League debut for Tottenham’s newest signing, Pedro Porro, who was previously at City, although he failed to make a single appearance for the club.

Merson has suggested that all the pressure is on the reigning Premier League champions heading into Sunday’s game.

The pundit told Sportskeeda: “The pressure’s going to be on Manchester City this week. They’ll probably be eight points behind Arsenal when they play this game, and they can’t afford anything less than a win here.

“If they don’t beat Tottenham, I don’t see how they can make up the difference.”

However, Merson believes that City will walk away with the points from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium even though the home side will be hard to break down.

The former Arsenal man added: “Manchester City have a nice fixture list in the Premier League after this game, and this is a big match. Tottenham will sit back and make it hard for them, but City should be able to win this game.”

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Manchester City.

Spurs Web Opinion

For the first time in many months, Conte and Stellini will have some fantastic options to turn to on the bench, particularly in the forward areas.

However, not having Conte on the touchline to shout instructions during the game, or to deliver the team talk before the game and at half-time, could have an adverse impact.
