Preston boss says ‘more to come’ from Alfie Devine, but he dreams of being a Tottenham star

Alfie Devine has been extremely impressive out on loan so far this campaign, and the latest comments from his manager will excite Tottenham supporters even more.

Many Tottenham Hotspur youngsters have been impressing on loan over recent months, none more so than an attacking midfielder who is in his fourth different loan spell in the EFL.

We are talking about Alfie Devine, who has made crucial contributions in the final third for Preston North End consistently this term, having made the number 10 role his own.

The 21-year-old has already found the back of the net eight times and provided three assists across all competitions this term, and his manager has now made an exciting prediction about his future.

Paul Heckingbottom believes there is a lot more to come from Tottenham’s Alfie Devine

The attacking midfielder has been thought of very highly at Hotspur Way for many years, having made his senior debut for Spurs all the way back in 2021, aged just 16.

He is showing signs of having come of age at Deepdale this season, and Preston boss Paul Heckingbottom believes that we have not even seen the best of Devine yet.

Following the Tottenham youngster’s brace against Stoke last week, Heckingbottom told BBC Sport: “Alfie’s a good, good player. A good lad. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him. As good as he plays, I think there’s more to come – he needs pushing. But I think with that as well, we have to understand it’s the most amount of minutes he’s played in this league.

“It’s tough… you’re a young boy, you have peaks and troughs. Where we need to get him is that consistency of performance because he’s got the ability, he’s got the brain, he’s got the talent to affect games positively, every single time he’s on the pitch.”

Preston have a £4.5m option to buy Devine at the end of the season.

Devine has not given up on his Spurs dream

Tottenham will be watching the youngster’s exploits at Preston closely, and they will be expecting the 21-year-old to return to North London a much better player in the summer.

Just a couple of days ago, Devine admitted that he retains the dream of becoming a first-team regular for Spurs.

After repeatedly being shipped out on loan for the last four seasons, the attacking midfielder will be hoping to take the next step and force himself into Tottenham’s plans when he returns for pre-season.
