Prolific attacker allegedly wanted by Tottenham admits he likes Arsenal

Rumoured Tottenham target Rafael Leao has expressed his admiration for the Lilywhites’ North London rivals, Arsenal.

Leao’s name will be on the lips of most top clubs around Europe, given his prolific record for AC Milan since the start of last season.

The winger, who won the Serie A Player of the Year award in 2021-22, scored seven goals and provided nine assists in all competitions in the first part of this season, and also found the back of the net twice at the World Cup (Transfermarkt).

It emerged last month that Spurs are one of several Premier League clubs who have their eye on the Portugal international ahead of January, along with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City (CalcioMercato.it).

However, Leao played down the speculation over his future by telling Gazzetta dello Sport a couple of weeks ago that he is in no hurry to leave the San Siro. The 23-year-old also confirmed that he will hold talks with Milan to renew his current deal, which runs out in the summer of 2024.

Leao has now reiterated that he is fully focused on the Rossoneri and also revealed his admiration for Arsenal.

The winger told RDP Africa (via Fabrizio Romano ): “Experience in new league? Yes, in the future… but now I’m 100% focused on AC Milan. It’s a top club and I’m under contract there. I like the city too. I watch many games. This year, I like Arsenal — they’re playing very well.”

Based on Leao’s latest statements over the past month, it seems like the winger is planning to remain at Milan beyond the end of next summer. However, if for some reason, the contract talks with the Serie A club hit a roadblock, several Premier League clubs will be lining up to sign the 23-year-old.
