‘Proud of the boys’ – Harry Kane ‘takes responsibility’ for England elimination

Harry Kane has said that he is proud of the way his England teammates played throughout the World Cup, and accepted responsibility for the Three Lions’ elimination in the quarterfinal.

After already having converted from the spot-kick to draw England level against France in the quarterfinal, Kane was tasked with repeating the trick late in the game against his Tottenham teammate Hugo Lloris after Les Blues had taken the lead for the second time.

However, the striker blasted the ball over the bar in the 84th minute, thus meaning that the reigning world champions progressed to the semifinals at the Three Lions’ expense.

Kane insisted after the game that England had the chance to win the game and that the game was decided by fine margins.

He also revealed that he was clear in his thought process ahead of the game regarding what he would do in case he had to take a second spot-kick, and took responsibility for failing to execute it as he wanted.

Given how much Kane would have been hurting after the final whistle, the fact that he has fronted up to the camera and taken responsibility, demonstrates the character he has.

While this sort of incident can affect some players for a long time, I am not worried about that being the case with Kane, given how mentally strong he is.
