PSG manager not sure whether reported Spurs target will remain past January

Tottenham Hotspur are in need of a new lead striker to fill Harry Kane’s boots while the England captain is sidelined through injury.

Kane was forced to undergo surgery on his left hamstring tendon this month after rupturing it against Southampton on New Years Day.

However, reports this week have been linking Spurs with a well-established name in the goalscoring profession, Edinson Cavani.

Granted, the striker will be 33 in February, but Spurs are in need of someone in the next ten or so days, so their options could be limited. The Guardian report that Spurs are interested in signing Cavani this month.

Cavani has an impressive 198 goals in 291 games for PSG, as well as 104 goals for Napoli. Throughout his career, he has amassed 351 goals in 576 games for his clubs and 50 goals in 116 games for Uruguay (Wikipedia).

In the latest update, PSG manager Thomas Tuchel has admitted that he is not sure whether Cavani will be at the club come February (Metro).

The PSG sporting director, Leonardo, also recently stated: “Edinson Cavani? He asked to leave, we are studying the situation. We had a proposal from Atletico Madrid, we did not accept it. I don’t know how it will end.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

He would be a big name to get excited about, he could fill the role of Kane for the next few months and act as back-up for the rest of the season and beyond. However, he is old enough that he also would not halt the progress of Troy Parrott. I’m all for it.
