Pundit argues why Harry Kane will not be tempted by Bayern Munich

Paul Merson has claimed that Harry Kane will not be tempted by Bayern Munich’s interest and backed the striker to finish his career at Tottenham.

Reports from Germany over the last few months have incessantly linked Kane with a move to the Allianz Arena next summer.

German publication TZ were the latest to report on the matter last week, suggesting that Bayern have identified the Tottenham man as their number one striker target for next summer and are prepared to pay over €100m (£86.2m) to sign the 29-year-old.

Meanwhile, CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs revealed last Tuesday that Spurs remain relaxed about Kane and believe he is open to signing a new deal at the club when the time is right.

This was backed up by Football.London’s Alasdair Gold on Sunday, with the journalist stating that the striker is ready to open talks with the club on a new contract.

Given how competitive Spurs have looked under Conte, Merson believes that Kane will put pen to paper on a new deal.

The former Arsenal midfielder told Sky Sports: “I don’t know if that will rock his boat, the Bayern Munich one. What would you go there for?… to win the Bundesliga? They won’t win the Champions League. They didn’t win it with Lewandowski.

“They are a great European team but I just think, at the moment, they might get left behind with your teams like Manchester City, PSG and Real Madrid. I’m not sure if they’re real contenders for the Champions League in my opinion.

“I think Harry has stayed there long enough now, there was an opportunity a while back with the Manchester City one but I think he’s just Tottenham through and through.

“For me, I think he stays at Tottenham, he’s a legend anyway at Tottenham but he can just cement that even more so. Tottenham are a good team, Tottenham are going to be there or there about for the top four, 100% and they’re going to get through their Champions League group.”

“They have a team that could cause problems in the Champions League. They’re very solid at the back and they’ve got two unbelievable players up front in Son and Kane that can hurt you, so they have got a bit of ammunition to go a bit deep in this Champions League.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if the worst comes to pass Kane does not sign a new contract with Spurs, I still do not see him leaving the Premier League as he has his eye on Alan Shearer’s record.

I am extremely optimistic that once Antonio Conte puts pen to paper on a new contract, Kane will soon follow as the striker has fully bought into the Italian’s project.
