Pundit argues why now is perfect time for Kane to sign new Spurs contract

In the wake of Antonio Conte’s comments about Harry Kane’s contract at Tottenham Hotspur, Chris Sutton says the Spurs striker should sign a new deal with the club.

Conte told Football.London recently that now is the “perfect time” for Kane to commit his future to the project he is building at Spurs. Kane now has less than two years remaining on his current contract (TransferMarkt).

After the rather messy situation regarding Kane’s future last summer, when a move to Premier League rivals Manchester City appeared to be on the cards, many fans are keen to see Kane tied down to a long-term deal.

The England captain has enjoyed a brilliant start to the season, scoring four goals in five games (Transfermarkt). This run of form has only strengthened the belief that securing Kane’s future at Spurs is more crucial than ever.

In his column for The Daily Mail, former Chelsea and Blackburn striker Chris Sutton supported Conte’s opinion and claims Kane should sign a new contract at Spurs.

He said: “I cannot help but wonder whether Conte voicing his thoughts is an opportunity in disguise for the England striker. He could use this to reaffirm his long-term loyalty to Tottenham and put all that pesky transfer speculation behind him.

“City isn’t going to happen, not now they have Haaland. Liverpool isn’t a likely destination, and I’d be amazed if Kane was willing to go full Sol Campbell in 2001 by leaving Tottenham for Arsenal.

“Kane agreeing to hop on the Conte fun bus would be a major boost to Tottenham. They’re on the up and I don’t see a downside to him agreeing a new deal.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Harry Kane is pretty much a Tottenham Hotspur legend already, but he could really cement his status as one of the greatest players and most loyal servants in the club’s history by committing to a new long-term deal. Stay at Spurs, break the goalscoring record, and hopefully win some trophies – what more could he want?
