Pundit backs ‘amazing’ 24-year-old target to take Spurs to a ‘different level’

Paul Robinson believes Tottenham would reach a ‘different level’ if they completed the signing of Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.

Spurs are likely going to be planning their next moves for Antonio Conte ahead of the summer transfer window, with Martinez thought to be a prime candidate (CalcioMercato).

Conte has reportedly told managing director Fabio Paratici to push for a move to recruit the 24-year-old, who has netted 17 goals in all competitions this term (Transfermarkt).

But despite having more than four years remaining on his current deal with Inter, Robinson feels he would be a suitable acquisition to take Spurs to the next level.

The former England international goalkeeper also believes Martinez could even act as a direct replacement for Harry Kane, who has recently been touted for a potential move to Manchester United (The Athletic).

Robinson told Football Insider: “I think he would take Spurs to a different level. He’s an amazing player.

“Spurs have a great front three but they cannot play every week. Jurgen Klopp has found that out with his front three. He has five players in rotation for those positions.

“As well as Spurs’ front three are doing at the moment they cannot play every game. It is a squad game now more than ever.

“When you talk about Martinez coming in we are assuming that Kane will still be there but I’m not sure he will. His aspirations will not have changed. He has a good relationship with Conte but he will want to win titles.”

Martinez has had a bit of a mixed campaign for Inter and he hasn’t necessarily reached the level of goals many will have expected him to score.

He is still a handy player, though, and will have plenty of room to grow but with Kane still at Spurs, spending a lot on another striker wouldn’t be the best use of funds at the moment.
