Pundit believes Spurs target could be ‘a similar sort of signing’ to Hojbjerg

Kevin Phillips believes that Joachim Andersen could prove to be a smart addition for Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Centre-back is reportedly one of the priority positions that Spurs are looking to strengthen this summer, with the club already said to have enquired about the likes of Jannik Vestergaard and Jerome Boateng.

Andersen, who has impressed during his loan spell at Fulham, is rumoured to be another option on Spurs’ radar.

Some sources have claimed that Lyon have already received a ‘serious enquiry’ from an unnamed English club for the 24-year-old, with the Ligue 1 club said to be ready to accept an offer of around £25m for the centre-back this summer.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold said last week that he expects Tottenham to compete for the Denmark international’s signature when the transfer window opens.

Phillips believes that Andersen could end up being a major coup for Spurs just like Hojbjerg has turned out to be.

When asked about Tottenham’s rumoured interest in Dane, the former Sunderland striker told Football Insider: “I think he would be a clever signing.

“It is another case of the big boys coming sniffing for the top players at the relegated sides. It will be very difficult for Fulham to keep hold of Andersen if Spurs came in with a bid.

“We have seen Rodon come in and do well for Tottenham this season and I think he will turn out to be an excellent player and Andersen could be another one. It might not be an overnight success but if you get him at the right price, it could be a great signing.

“Look at Hojbjerg, he’s been fantastic for them this season. I didn’t think that was going to be this good. Andersen could be a similar sort of signing for Spurs and be the next Hojbjerg in that way.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given Tottenham’s issues in central defence and the club’s financial owes, a move for Andersen seems like a no-brainer. However, I would be surprised if Spurs are the only Premier League club after the 24-year-old’s signature on the back of his impressive performances for Fulham this season.
