Pundit believes Tottenham would be a good fit for highly-rated manager

Former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann has told Sky Sports Germany that Julian Nagelsmann would be a good fit for Tottenham Hotspur and suggested the 35-year-old ‘could do worse’ than making the Spurs project his next job in management.

Nagelsmann lost his job at German giants Bayern Munich recently and has become hot property for many top clubs in Europe since.

It is thought Tottenham have already reached out to Nagelsmann’s people to discuss the vacancy at the club (Daily Mail).

Tottenham may face competition from rivals Chelsea for the young German coach however, as journalist Florian Plettenberg claims Nagelsmann would be the top target for the Blues if they are to part ways with Graham Potter.

With Spurs looking for a new permanent manager after the departure of Antonio Conte, it remains to be seen who will take on the role at the end of the season.

According to Hamann, Nagelsmann joining the North London club could be a good fit for all parties.

He said: “I think it’s very likely that the next step is to go abroad. Whether it’s England or another country.

“England is the league where coaches want to go because that’s where the most money is at the moment. They play very good football there and I think Tottenham is a club where you could do worse.

“It’s difficult to win a title there, but you’re always within striking distance of the Champions League. And of course, you have a good chance to be champions there.

“Of course, you have to beat Arsenal and Liverpool and City and United and all of them. It’s going to be difficult, but I think it wouldn’t be the worst choice for him as a next step.”

On Nagelsmann’s situation at Bayern, Hamann added: “Of course, that didn’t help him now, the way the exit was done.

“I could imagine that there is a big market for him in England because he is one of the most interesting young coaches.

“I think he learned a lot in Munich. That’s why I think if he comes to the Premier League club, he will come there as a better coach than he was in Munich.”

“I do believe that the next step will now be abroad. Because once you’ve been at Bayern, once you’ve won titles, then, of course, you want to take the next step and that’s why I think he’ll go to England.

“And I could well imagine that with Tottenham could, I think, fit quite well.”

Taking over at Tottenham would arguably be an even more difficult task than managing at Bayern Munich for Nagelsmann.

It’s a huge project and there would be massive expectations on him at Spurs, but I would love to see him in charge here.
