Pundit blown away by ‘insane’ double transfer from Daniel Levy and Spurs

Darren Ambrose is astounded that Tottenham Hotspur have managed to get James Maddison for such a bargain price, thanks to Harry Winks’ move in the other direction.

Tottenham reportedly agreed a fee of £40m with Leicester for the transfer of Maddison, which was a far cry from the rumoured £60m fee that the Foxes were demanding for the attacking midfielder a couple of weeks ago (Telegraph).

The 26-year-old has posted some phenomenal numbers in a struggling Foxes side over the last couple of years, which is why the capture is arguably the bargain of the transfer window so far.

In addition, Tottenham also managed to offload Winks, who was surplus to requirements in North London, to the relegated side in a £10m deal, which essentially means that they have managed to get Maddison for £30m plus Winks.

Ambrose is impressed by Maddison and Winks deals

Ambrose believes that the Spurs hierarchy deserves credit for pulling off such a lucrative deal to fill a key position in their squad.

The pundit told talkSPORT (02/07 9 am onwards): “From a Spurs supporter, that means £10 million for Harry Winks. You are essentially getting Maddison for £30 million, that’s insane business. A bit of credit where it’s due. That’s a great signing from Tottenham.”

The Maddison deal is certainly a bargain but Spurs were helped by the fact that none of the other big clubs were in the market for an attacking midfielder.

Newcastle were the only other top club who showed interest in Maddison but even they were prioritising other signings, which meant that the bidding war that Leicester expected did not ensue.
