Pundit calls for Postecoglou to let Spurs man ‘play two or three games’

According to former Romanian footballer Lucian Goian, Radu Dragusin does not have any weaknesses, and when he is given the chance to play for Spurs, he will not be removed from the team.

Tottenham added another top-quality centre-half to their roster in the January transfer window, with the acquisition of Radu Dragusin from Genoa in a reported £26.7m deal (Sky Sports).

However, we are yet to see much of the Romanian defender, as both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero regained fitness just as he arrived at Spurs.

As a result, Dragusin has been limited to three very brief substitute appearances so far, totalling just eight minutes of game time for the Lilywhites (Transfermarkt).

So far, the player’s agent (speaking to Fanatik via Playsport), his manager, Ange Postecoglou (via Football.London), and even Dragusin’s mother (via Orange Sport) have all spoken about the fact there is no need to worry over this lack of playing time so far.

Dragusin just needs a chance at Tottenham

Now, speaking to Romania’s Sport.ro, former Dinamo București defender Lucian Goian heaped praise on his compatriot, and insisted Spurs will eventually give Dragusin a chance to show what he can do.

He said: “I can see he’s in demand [to be] in the first 11 by the fans. I hope he plays and confirms himself. He also needs a bit of luck, not to make a mistake or, if he does, at least to win. Get it wrong once and I don’t think he’ll take you out. Romero has made mistakes before.

“Drăgușin also needs a bit of luck. Let him come in, play two or three games, win the team, and no one takes him out. If he scores a goal, everything will go easier. I don’t think they paid €25m for him to make the bench. I’d like him to come in and play and stay in England. It’s getting harder and harder to get a footballer at Tottenham’s level.”

On what exactly it is that Dragusin offers, Goian added: “I don’t think he has any weaknesses. He’s a strong, intelligent, professional footballer. Even if he doesn’t have very good speed, he can correct that from his positioning.

“He’s not Varane, who has super-speed, but he makes up for it with his intelligence. From what I’ve heard from football people who know him, he trains very well, he’s careful what he does off the pitch.”

Dragusin’s time will come, and when it does, he will thrive, I’m sure. It’s only a matter of time before Postecoglou decides to rest Romero or van de Ven, and Dragusin just has to make sure he is ready.
