Pundit claims 19-year-old would be better signing for Real Madrid than Harry Kane

Former West Ham goalkeeper, Shaka Hislop, believes that it makes more sense for Real Madrid to pursue Borussia Dortmund hotshot, Erling Haaland, rather than Harry Kane.

Kane’s future has been subject to a lot of speculation over the past few months with Real Madrid mentioned as one of the clubs said to be interested in the Tottenham talisman (Diario Madridista).

However, multiple reports have reiterated the fact that the England captain will not leave North London this summer (talkSPORT).

Hislop believes that if Los Blancos are looking for a replacement for Benzema, then Kane certainly fits the bill.

Speaking to ESPN FC (as relayed by the Express), he said: “I can [see Kane at Real] I’ll be honest, I can see Harry Kane anywhere.

“I think he is that good a footballer, he fits into just about any system that he chooses.

“The big question is does he come in and replace Karim Benzema, who continues to be a vital part of that squad?

“Pound for pound, if you asked me to choose between the two right now, I take Harry Kane. But the one thing that you know with Benzema and Real Madrid is that it’s a fit.

“You know it works, whereas it’s a little bit uncertain with Harry Kane. But I see this working if this does happen for both club and player.”

However, the pundit added that the emergence of Haaland has given Madrid a lot to think about. He insisted that the Dortmund star would be a better signing than Kane for Zinedine Zidane’s side due to his age.

When asked who he would prefer between Haaland and Kane, Hislop said: “Right now I think I’m leaning [towards] Haaland.

“Just maybe because of his age, there’s more upside, which I know we’re talking about Real Madrid and that’s not top of their own considerations, they go for the brightest talents at the peaks of their powers.

“But left up to me, if I’m building a squad, I’m leaning Haaland.”

While Haaland needs to perform at the same level for a few more years before he can be compared to Kane, I can see why Real Madrid may want to go for the Dortmund star given that they will get more value for money in that deal. Kane is worth much more to Spurs than he is to any other club and so Daniel Levy will not sell him for less than £200 million.
