Pundit claims big-money Spurs signing is ‘heading down the same path as Dele Alli’

Former Sunderland striker, Kevin Phillips has claimed that Davinson Sanchez will be worried about his future at Tottenham and that the central defender could become a fringe figure like Dele Alli.

Sanchez has not started a Premier League game for Tottenham since the North Londoners threw away a three-goal lead against West Ham back in September.

While one can put that down to the terrific form that Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld have been in over the past few weeks, the Colombian may have expected to come back into the team for the clash against Chelsea following Alderweireld’s injury.

However, it was summer signing Joe Rodon who got the nod to start ahead of Sanchez, which was the clearest indication yet that the former Ajax man is now Jose Mourinho’s fourth choice in central defence.

Sanchez has been linked with a move away from Tottenham during the January transfer window, with reports indicating that the defender is frustrated at his lack of game time (Don Balon).

Phillips admitted that he would consider his options in January if he was in the Tottenham defender’s shoes after being overlooked against Chelsea on Sunday.

The pundit told Football Insider: “He could be heading down the same path as Dele Alli.

“A young player has started at the weekend ahead of him and that is always a concern.

“Sanchez has been there a while now and he has had his ups, his downs and a fair share of criticism.

“When you see a player brought in who is younger than you, I would be slightly concerned. It does not bode well. I would consider my options come January.”

While Sanchez possesses some terrific attributes, he has not developed as much as Tottenham would have hoped for over the last few years. He still looks just as raw as he did when he arrived from Ajax and does not seem to have eradicated his tendency to lose concentration and make the occasional mistake. It looks as though Mourinho has made up his mind on Sanchez and it would not be surprising if we let him go in January.
