Pundit claims Bundesliga star is ‘no-brainer’ signing to ‘beef up’ Spurs squad

Noel Whelan has insisted that Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Daichi Kamada is exactly the sort of signing Tottenham need to beef up their squad this summer.

Kamada has been a key player for Frankfurt for the best part of five years but the attacking midfielder has arguably had his best season for the Bundesliga club in 2021/22.

He finished the campaign with nine goals and four assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt), playing a valued role in the club’s Europa League triumph.

The print edition of SportBILD (18/05/22 – via Sport Witness) reported earlier this month that Spurs and Sevilla were battling it out for the Japanese international’s signature this summer.

The versatile midfielder has just 12 months left to run on his contract at Deutsche Bank Park (TransferMarkt).

Whelan believes that Kamada would be a good fit for Antonio Conte’s side given his energy and technical quality on the ball. The pundit suggested that the Frankfurt star’s contract situation also makes him an ideal target for the Lilywhites.

When asked if Kamada would be a good signing for Tottenham, the former Leeds winger told Football Insider: “Absolutely. I like the way he plays the game. He’s very nimble and energetic, and he’s shown what he can do on the ball as well.

“We’ve seen what he’s capable of in the Europa League with Frankfurt. He’s a player who has had admirers all season in Germany and beyond. He’s the right age and he’s coming out of contract so you can get him on the cheap. There’s a deal to be done there.

“He’s coming into the right years and Tottenham need to beef up that squad if they’re going to go far in the Champions League. He seems to have a good attitude about him. It’s a bit of a no-brainer.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Spurs need to sign an attacking midfielder this summer in order to balance the squad.

However, I do not expect us to spend big on a number eight or sign a big-name player for that role since I expect Conte to employ the signing on a rotational basis.

So, Kamada might fit the bill for what we need as long as he is willing to be a squad player and has the right attitude.
