Pundit claims Chelsea should target Spurs star and Harry Maguire this summer

Richard Keys has suggested Chelsea should attempt to sign Tottenham striker Harry Kane this summer if they are planning to build with an English core.

The Blues are expected to be active in the upcoming transfer window given they are about to lose defenders Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, while the future of striker Romelu Lukaku continues to be uncertain (Telegraph).

The west London outfit are also on the cusp of being taken over by billionaire US tycoon Todd Boehly, and it remains to be seen how much cash will be made available for the club to use to improve the playing squad (Sky Sports).

beIN SPORTS host Keys recently claimed in his blog that Chelsea should look to create a spine of English players as part of a rebuild and named Kane alongside Manchester United’s Harry Maguire and West Ham’s Declan Rice as potential targets.

And Keys, in discussion with co-host Andy Gray, doubled down on his suggestion that Thomas Tuchel’s side should attempt to sign Kane ahead of the new campaign.

Gray said on beIn SPORTS: “That’s a massive shout for Harry Kane if he went to Chelsea.”

Keys replied: “If Chelsea want an English spine, which has been suggested, [Harry] Kane, Declan Rice, and they need a centre-back, where is there a centre-back available? Harry Maguire.”

Gray responded: “What? Are you serious?”

Chelsea’s pending takeover will likely put them in a better position than they currently are and they will target some high-profile names to improve the state of their squad.

They could move for Kane, but a transfer would be pretty unlikely given their relationship with Tottenham both on and off the pitch.
