Pundit claims Conte’s treatment of 25-year-old will be different to Mourinho’s

Ian Wright has claimed that Antonio Conte will simply move Dele Alli on in January if he does not feel he can get the best out of the midfielder.

Alli’s stock has fallen considerably over the last couple of years, with the former MK Dons man becoming a fringe player at Spurs and losing his place in the England squad.

It seemed as though the 25-year-old had got a new lease of life under Nuno Espirito Santo at the start of the season but he also fell out of favour under the Portuguese coach and has not played a single minute in the Premier League since the defeat to Arsenal in September.

Alli has not yet featured in Antonio Conte’s first two games in charge of Spurs against Vitesse Arnhem and Everton.

However, the Italian did insist a few days ago that the door is open for the midfielder to prove that he deserves a place in the starting eleven.

Wright believes Conte will not criticise Alli publicly like Mourinho did and will simply get rid of the midfielder if he does not think he fits into his plans.

The former Arsenal striker said on The Kelly and Wrighty Show: “The thing with Mourinho is that it’s like he wants to be in opposition with somebody, he wants to upset somebody.

“That’s the guy I don’t like at the moment, I am giving him a chance, he is not taking it, see I gave him a chance, he didn’t take it’.

“Conte won’t do that with him. If he can get something out of him, he will try to get it out of him, but if he can’t, again, he has got no qualms in moving that on and doing what he wants to do.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Mourinho’s public criticism of the likes of Dele and Ndombele never sat well with me, in fairness to the Portuguese coach, I think it was clear that he too wanted Alli sold.

As much as I hope Dele turns things around, I do not see him being a good fit for Conte’s system and I expect Spurs to cash in on him in January.
