Pundit claims Cristian Stellini will still talk about Spurs with Antonio Conte

Ally McCoist has told talkSPORT Breakfast (27/03/23) that he thinks Cristian Stellini will stay in contact with Antonio Conte and the pair will inevitably talk about the ongoing situation at Tottenham despite the latter leaving his position at the club.

Conte was in charge of Tottenham for 16 months before the club announced on Sunday that the Italian had left his role as manager in a mutual termination of his contract.

His assistant, Stellini, will continue to oversee the first team until the end of the season with help from Ryan Mason.

The circumstances surrounding Conte’s exit were shrouded in controversy, as the 53-year-old’s position became untenable after criticising his players and the club’s owners in a recent press conference (Football.London).

Despite this tumultuous departure, McCoist reckons Conte and Stellini will undoubtedly remain good friends and keep in touch with one another.

The pair had worked together for many years prior to their time at Spurs, with previous collaborations at Juventus and Inter Milan.

He said: “If you have worked with somebody in close encounters, with a team, then there is absolutely no way you are going to cut ties.

“There is no way you are going to cut ties. You will have a conversation, absolutely.”

McCoist made it clear he doesn’t believe Stellini will turn to Conte for help, but added: “If you have a bond with someone like that for a long time, then you aren’t going to cut ties with them.

“You are going to phone them. You are going to speak to them. You would be naive to think that Spurs wouldn’t come up in the conversation.

“I am not sure that will be the case [Conte giving advice], but certainly they will discuss Spurs, that’s what they do. They talk football.”

There is absolutely no doubt Conte and Stellini will stay in touch, as they have known each other for such a long time.

Naturally, the topic of Tottenham Hotspur will come up in their conversations, and I’m sure Conte will be more than supportive of his friend’s endeavours at the club.
