Pundit claims ex-Spurs man has lost the ‘glint in his eye’ and ‘smile’ since leaving

Former Rangers boss, Ally McCoist, has claimed that Mauricio Pochettino has lost the sparkle he had when he was managing Tottenham Hotspur.

The Argentine was sacked by Tottenham in 2019 following a poor start to his sixth season in charge in North London and was replaced at the helm by Jose Mourinho.

Tottenham’s Mourinho experiment did not work, with the club eventually parting ways with the Portuguese coach back in April.

Before the North London club confirmed Nuno Espirito Santo as Mourinho’s replacement, they reportedly explored the possibility of bringing Pochettino back to the club.

Some sources indicated at the time that the former Spurs boss was keen on a return to North London, with the 49-year-old alleged to be unhappy at PSG.

The former Tottenham manager signed a new contract with the Parisians last month, thus putting an end to any speculation that he could leave the Parc des Princes.

However, McCoist has suggested that the 49-year-old has lost his spark since taking a place in the PSG dugout.

He told talkSPORT: “I watch Pochettino now in his interviews – and I remember we used to speak about Mourinho losing his sparkle.

“In interviews, I’ve seen with Pochettino, I think he’s lost that glint in his eye, the smile.”

I think there is certainly an element of truth to what McCoist is saying. It is possible that Pochettino might have been worn down by the politics of the PSG job and the various egos he has to manage in the dressing room.

I personally cannot see him remaining at the Ligue 1 giants next season but I doubt if a return to Spurs is on the cards for the Argentine as he is likely to have plenty of suitors across Europe.
