Pundit claims he expects Spurs to rival Liverpool for defender in the summer

Paul Robinson has claimed that he expects Tottenham Hotspur to be one of the clubs challenging to sign Brighton defender Ben White in the summer.

White enjoyed an impressive campaign on loan at Leeds United last season, playing a key part in helping Marcelo Bielsa’s side win promotion back to the top flight.

The young centre-back has carried on from where he left off this season, putting in consistent performances for the Seagulls and showing that he is more than good enough for the Premier League.

The 23-year-old, who he is aerially strong while also being good with the ball at his feet, was linked with a move to Tottenham last summer as well as just before the January transfer window opened.

Robinson stated that he expects Spurs to again show interest in White at the end of the season but claimed that Brighton star will be in high demand.

The former England goalkeeper told Football Insider: “A lot of clubs will be looking to sign an elite level centre-back in the summer.

“I expect Ben White to be in demand from Leeds, Liverpool and Tottenham at the end of the season.

“You can see how hard that market when you look at Liverpool’s business in January.

“They waited until the end of the window and they got two players who they probably did not initially want to sign.

“If you are a top-class centre-half in this day and age, you are in high-demand.”

White would certainly tick a lot of boxes for Spurs given the club’s issues with meeting the homegrown player criteria and their need for quality reinforcements at centre-back. However, there is likely to be plenty of interest from around the Premier League in the 23-year-old and we might get priced out of the transfer.
