Pundit claims Heung-min Son is better than De Bruyne at one technique

Former England international and football pundit Owen Hargreaves has compared Heung-min Son to Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne, and thinks the Tottenham Hotspur attacker has the Belgian beat in one area.

Son finally ended his goal drought at the weekend, with an incredible hat-trick against Leicester City as Spurs secured a 6-2 win at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium. The Korean had previously gone eight games without a goal this season.

Among those three goals were two right-footed efforts, and a stunning long-range left-footed strike – further evidence that Son is one of the most accomplished two-footed players in the Premier League, if not the world.

As reported by The Athletic, Son is quite literally the best two-footed goalscorer in the history of the Premier League. Of all the players with over 80 appearances in the league, Son has the highest percentage with his weaker foot.

44% of Son’s goals up to the end of last season came with his left foot, which is amazing considering he is supposed to be a right-footed player. Now, Owen Hargreaves claims Son is even better with his weak foot than Kevin de Bruyne.

Speaking to Premier League Productions (17/09/22 at 7:00 pm onwards), Hargreaves said: “The thing is, he is the best finisher off his weaker foot in the whole league.

“Kevin de Bruyne is very good at that as well. A lot of people can hit it straight like de Bruyne, but to whip it inside is amazing.

“Son, with your weaker foot, to curl that, it’s such a difficult skill. We saw it with his pace, dribbling, his awareness onto his right foot, when to take a touch and when to finish it with his left. He has everything.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I can think of no two better players than Heung-min Son and Kevin de Bruyne when it comes to using their so-called weaker foot. As for who is better, it’s a tricky one.

Son is probably a better finisher with his left, while Kevin de Bruyne has the edge when it comes to a defence-splitting pass on his weaker side.

Let’s just say Son wins it, because we all love Sonny, don’t we?
