Pundit claims Jose Mourinho deserves ‘huge credit’ for identifying this 25-year-old

Rio Ferdinand has lavished praise on Jose Mourinho for identifying Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as the man to help strengthen Tottenham’s midfield in the summer transfer window.

Hojbjerg was the first player to arrive through the doors at Spurs during the summer and the midfielder was seen by many as a solid but unspectacular addition.

However, it is fair to say that he is now regarded by some as the signing of the summer, less than a quarter of the way into the campaign, which shows the kind of impact the Dane has had since arriving at the club.

The 25-year-old hardly put a foot wrong in the 2-0 win over Manchester City on Saturday as he denied the opposition midfielders any space on the ball in Spurs’ defensive third and constantly put out fires throughout the ninety minutes.

The way in which Mourinho embraced Hojbjerg after the match told you all you need to know about what the Tottenham boss thought of the former Southampton man’s display.

While discussing Tottenham’s win over Pep Guardiola’s side, Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE: “Hojbjerg. An absolute massive signing for Jose.

“You have to give him huge, huge, huge credit identifying him – he is going to come here and he is going to be the breaker, the person that sits in there, does all the nasty work, the hard jobs, stops the other teams from playing, pass it to the people like the Kanes and the Sons to go and do their bits of magic.”
