Pundit claims Liverpool player would be a good addition for Tottenham

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Liverpool central defender Dejan Lovren in the summer.

Italian news outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi reported recently that Spurs along with Lazio and Arsenal are both considering making an approach.

The 30-year-old has found himself falling down the pecking order at Anfield this season and is said to be keen to seeking a move away from the champions-elect.

Some Spurs fans were horrified by the prospect of landing the Croatian international and pleaded for Arsenal to sign the Reds star.

However, former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips believes the 30-year-old will be a very good addition to the Spurs squad.

He insisted that Lovren with his experience will help sort out Tottenham’s defensive fragilities and claimed the former Southampton defender is exactly the type of player Jose Mourinho will be targeting in the summer.

Speaking to Football Insider, Phillips said: “Lovren has been a good player at Southampton and Liverpool. He has probably not played as much football as he would like so he might be thinking it is time to move on.

“Tottenham, defensively, have got some frailties. It is an area that Jose will be looking at.

“You cannot go far wrong when you are looking at a player like that who is experienced in the Premier League and has played at the top level. He has experienced high-pressure situations so it could turn out to be a good signing.

“You look at David Luiz at Arsenal, he’s like him, these players can be picked up.

“I am not saying he is at the end of his career but his best years are behind him. I think that could be a really good signing for two or three years.”

Spurs Web Opinion

With Eric Dier being moved back into centre-back, and Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga still having their best years ahead of them, I would expect Jose to add some expereince to the backline in the summer. However, we have to do better than Lovren. I would personally rather hand Vertonghen an extension than sign the Liverpool man.
