Pundit claims out-of-favour Spurs player would be ‘perfect fit’ for West Ham

Gabby Agbonlahor believes that Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks would be a perfect signing for West Ham United this summer.

Winks struggled to get much game time during the second half of the 2021/22 season despite the fact that Oliver Skipp was out with an injury.

With Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ahead of him in Antonio Conte’s pecking order, and with Spurs signing Yves Bissouma (Tottenham), the England international does not appear to have a future at his boyhood club.

According to The Daily Mail, Tottenham are willing to cash in on Winks this summer, with the Lilywhites thought to value the midfielder at around £25m.

The Sun reported a couple of weeks ago that the Everton, Fulham and Sevilla were all eyeing a move for the Spurs star this summer.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has even claimed that Tottenham could use Winks as a potential makeweight in a deal to sign Richarlison from the Toffees.

Agbonlahor has urged Winks to leave Spurs in order to get his career back on track and suggested that a move to the London Stadium would be ideal for the midfielder.

The former Aston Villa striker told Football Insider: “You look at Bissouma coming in. That means they’re going to have Hjojberg on the bench.

“Winks is never going to get a game. Sometimes you’ve got to leave for your own career. Go to another Premier League club and go and play some football.

“Maybe West Ham and go and play some football. At one time he was getting England call-ups and now he rarely plays. It would be the perfect fit.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think West Ham’s style of play would suit Winks, given his defensive shortcomings. I believe the 26-year-old could thrive at a possession-based team like Brighton or Leeds. I would not be surprised if Everton and Villa are also eyeing the midfielder, given how they play under Lampard and Gerrard respectively.
