Former West Ham United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has sung the praises of Bournemouth stopper Aaron Ramsdale who is said to be on Tottenham’s radar in the summer.

The Daily Mail reported last week that Tottenham have identified Ramsdale as a potential transfer target as they seek to bolster their goalkeeping options.

The report claimed that Jose Mourinho viewed the 21-year-old as being able to provide competition Hugo Lloris’ number one shirt in a back-up role with Michel Vorm expected to depart when his contract expires in the summer.

However, it was suggested that the Lilywhites were facing competition from Chelsea to land Ramsdale.

Spurs have also been linked with other goalkeeping options with Lazio’s Thomas Strakosha (Il Tempo) and Ajax’s Andre Onana (The Sun) both said to be interesting the Champions League finalists..

Hislop, however, felt that it was the Bournemouth number one that had everything in his game to evolve into a top goalkeeper.

Reacting to Chelsea’s interest in the young Englishman, Hislop told ESPN FC: “Ramsdale has been simply outstanding. There is no other way to put it.

“Let’s just say somehow, they get everything sorted and Kepa moves on, Ramsdale comes in. I think he does a wonderful job for Chelsea.

“As a young goalkeeper, you are looking for weaknesses in his game. I don’t think he has an awful lot.

“He is a solid shot-stopper. He always looks composed within the goal and has a real presence about him, which is not something I say about many goalkeepers easily.”

Of all the goalkeepers we’ve been linked with so far, Ramsdale looks like the best option as he’s likely to be cheaper and more willing to accept a bit-part role for a season or two with the view to being our long-term number one.

The likes of Strakosha or Onana are going to want to play straight away. Additionally, we need to sign more British players to help meet the homegrown quota.
