Pundit claims PL rivals are embarrassed Tottenham have a better stadium

Simon Jordan has claimed Manchester United are embarrassed that Tottenham have a better stadium than them, amidst reports Old Trafford could be redeveloped.

The Red Devils are reportedly weighing up their options on improving the level of their iconic home, and demolishing it to make way for a new arena is under consideration (The Telegraph).

Such a suggestion has already been completed by Tottenham in recent years, who knocked down their 118-year-old home White Hart Lane to build their state-of-the-art Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs’ arena, which seats more than 62,000 spectators, has quickly become the marvel of the football world, as well as playing host to American Football and high-profile boxing events.

Former Crystal Palace owner Jordan has backed United to push forward with their plans to build a new stadium and believes they feel undermined by the quality of Tottenham’s home.

He told talkSPORT: “The argument of the fact that it’s not a functioning stadium as one would like it to be, I understand that was the stick to beat the Glazers with for a while, that they don’t do anything, let alone fix the stadium.

“It’s no more sacrosanct than Tottenham Hotspur’s [old stadium White Hart Lane]. So if you’re going to build it on the same site, and you’re going to build a better stadium, then why would there be resistance to it?

“If they’re prepared, and I doubt they are, but if they’re prepared to spend a billion-and-a-half [pounds], and it will be a billion-and-a-half I suspect to build a 90,000 seater stadium to put 16,000 extra seats in there, then they’re going to build a fabulous stadium.

“There is almost an embarrassment factor to the fact that Tottenham have a better stadium. So you can see that it might actually do something for United, it might elevate them, it might increase their share price.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham’s home is perfect for them going forward and they’ve received plenty of praise for what they’ve achieved in building it.

But unfortunately, the team in recent seasons hasn’t matched the standards of the stadium it is playing in which is a great shame and actually pretty embarrassing.

Daniel Levy needs to show the same level of care for the squad as the stadium, then results can start to get back on track.
