Pundit claims Richarlison is overpriced – Argues what Spurs should have paid

Speaking on Talk Sport (6:50 am, 2nd July, 2022), Tony Cascarino has declared that Tottenham overpaid when signing Richarlison.

Spurs announced the signing of Richarlison from Premier League rivals Everton on Friday morning. The 25-year-old penned a five-year deal for Antonio Conte’s men and will link up with the squad in the coming days (Spurs Official).

Sky Sports report that the deal is worth an initial £50 million, which will rise to around £60 million with add-ons included.

The Brazilian proved his worth for Frank Lampard’s side last season, scoring ten goals and providing five assists as the Toffees narrowly escaped relegation (TransferMarkt).

Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic has reported that Spurs boss Antonio Conte was pushing to bring Richarlison to N17 as he is a huge admirer of his physicality, attitude and attacking versatility.

However, former Chelsea striker Cascarino has claimed that Spurs paid well above the odds to secure Richarlison’s signature. He suggested that for a fee of that magnitude, he would expect Spurs to have secured a guaranteed starter.

He said (TalkSport): “I don’t envisage him in the starting eleven. So that’s a problem in itself.

“If you had said to me what you would price him at, I would have said between max £40 million and closer to £30 million.

“I just see a player that goes down too easily, he would upset a lot of Everton fans because he does go to ground and he does it very regularly in the game.
