Pundit claims signing Spurs man is a ‘must’ for league leaders this summer

Neil McCann has urged Celtic to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent deal from Tottenham this summer after the defender’s commanding performances this season.

Spurs loaned Carter-Vickers to the Hoops for the 2021-22 campaign and he has since been in inspired form for the Glasgow-based club.

The 24-year-old has been ever-present in the heart of Celtic’s defence, racking up more than 40 appearances, including Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Rangers (Transfermarkt).

Celtic are thought to hold an option to buy Carter-Vickers for around £6 million (Sky Sports), although there has now been further transfer speculation back in England.

90min reported that Southampton and newly-promoted Premier League side Fulham have taken an interest in signing Carter-Vickers with Spurs unlikely to include him as part of their plans next season.

And with other clubs sensing an opportunity to sign the USA international, McCann believes it is vital for Celtic that they complete his permanent signature.

He told BBC Sport Scotland (via The Scottish Sun): “Cameron Carter-Vickers is a must for me. He’s been outstanding and the pick of the defenders. He’s a real tower of strength in the middle.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is good that Spurs are looking to offload players they don’t think will be utilised much this season and Carter-Vickers is essentially a guaranteed sale this summer.

It seems to have worked for him at one particular club in a certain league instead of Spurs which can often be the case, so there really isn’t much that can be done about that.
