Pundit claims Spurs man is best player in the league ‘by a country mile’ – Not Harry Kane

Former Aston Villa striker, Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed that Son Heung-min is comfortably the best player in the Premier League and insisted that the South Korean would walk into any team in world football.

Son has started the season in terrific form in front of goal and is currently sitting at the top of the Premier League’s goalscoring charts with eight strikes to his name.

Reports indicate that Tottenham are currently in talks with Son over a new contract that would see him earn the same salary as Harry Kane (Transfer Window Podcast).

Jose Mourinho insisted last month that there is nothing more the forward can do on the pitch if he is still not considered ‘world-class’ after his exploits over recent years.

Agbonlahor more than agreed with Mourinho’s assertion, insisting that the 28-year-old could be poached by the top clubs around Europe if Spurs do not get him signed to a new deal.

The former England striker told Football Insider: “Son is the best player in the Premier League, for me, by a country mile.

“If I was Tottenham I’d be putting down on a contract on whatever he wants, just to get him signed on because he can go to any club in the world.

“At any club in the world he’d be starting, we’re talking Liverpool, Man City, Real Madrid, Barcelona he’s that good.

“Spurs will know that, Jose will know that, Daniel Levy will know that so I’m sure they’ll tie him down and he’ll be one of the highest earners for sure.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is brilliant to see Son finally get the plaudits he deserves as he has improved almost every season since coming to Tottenham. However, Agbonlahor is getting a little carried away by labelling him ‘the best player by a country mile’. I still consider the likes of Kane, Salah, Van Dijk and De Bruyne to be ahead of the South Korean but there is no doubt that he belongs in the conversation. I expect him to sign a new deal and see out his career at Spurs as he clearly looks delighted to be at the club.
