Pundit claims Spurs move for 20-year-old will get fans ‘really excited’

Alan Hutton believes that reports of Tottenham making a move for Tariq Lamptey this summer will excite Spurs fans.

Right-back is one of the areas that needs to be addressed for Spurs during this summer’s transfer window.

Matt Doherty has struggled for form in his first season at Spurs while Serge Aurier is expected to leave the club.

Lamptey is one of the options Tottenham are said to be eyeing as a potential replacement for Aurier (Sky Sports).

The 20-year-old has come on leaps and bounds since his move to the Seagulls in January of last year.

Under Graham Potter, the Chelsea youth academy graduate has evolved into one of the most dynamic full-backs in the Premier League.

The youngster missed much of the campaign due to injury but that has not put off interested parties, with Arsenal also being backed to challenge Spurs for the Brighton star’s signature.

Hutton approved Tottenham’s rumoured interest in Lamptey, insisting that the England Under-21 international has a promising future ahead of him.

The former Spurs star told Football Insider: “He (Lamptey) can play as a wing-back or full-back, he’s a bundle of energy.

“I think Brighton have got the best deal ever. What did they buy him for, £2-3million? We’re probably talking about a big figure here.

“I think he had an excellent start to the season. Yeah, he did drop off a little bit but that’s to be expected.

“Your first main season within the Premier League, especially for one so young, you’re going to have a little dip in form.

“I think that’s a move that the fans would be really excited about. He’s an exciting player and he’s going to get better as he gets more experienced. I think it’s one the fans would like.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Lamptey would be a great signing for Spurs but only if we are going to be playing a back five for the foreseeable future. I think he is a perfect right-wing-back but not big enough to play as a right-back in a flat back four.
