Pundit claims Spurs players sometimes stop training and ‘applaud’ midfielder

Former Crystal Palace striker, Clinton Morrison has heard that the Tottenham players occasionally stop training and applaud Tanguy Ndombele for some of the things he does.

Ndombele had an extremely disappointing first season in English football and failed to get a consistent run in the side after Jose Mourinho arrived at the club last November.

The Spurs boss publicly questioned the midfielder’s work rate back in March and it did not seem as though he was part of the Portuguese coach’s plans moving forward.

However, Ndombele seems to have completely turned around his Tottenham career at the start of this campaign as he has established himself as one of the first names in Mourinho’s team sheet.

He has started to show the talent that convinced the Lilywhites to fork out a club-record fee for him last summer.

Even in Tottenham’s win at Turf Moor, which was a pretty dull affair, the Frenchman lit up the game on a few occasions with some excellent touches and turns as he tried to make things happen.

Morrison revealed that the 23-year-old frequently produces special moments in training, many of which leave his teammates in awe.

When asked if has won the Spurs boss’ trust, the pundit told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (24/10/20 at 2:35 pm): “Yes, he probably has.

“It was probably fitness, he didn’t help himself. He needs to look at himself and say ‘he wasn’t working hard in training’. Jose is big on players working hard in training.

“I said from last season. I watched him at Lyon and I thought he was going to be a player. I thought he was going to come to the Premier League and actually rip it to pieces. Now you are starting to see his ability in the final third.

“He makes things happen. He is strong. He can back in and roll it. Has a trick in his locker and he can pick a pass. I hear some of the things he does in training, the players actually stop and applaud him. He is that much of a good player. If he starts delivering 9/10 in the Premier League then Tottenham have got a hell of a player.”
