Alan Brazil believes Tottenham should have pursued a move to sign Dan Burn from Brighton before he joined Newcastle.
Burn was part of a collection of incomings for the Magpies in January, securing a £13 million switch (Sky Sports) which saw him return to his boyhood club.
He has quickly merged himself into Eddie Howe’s defence and has been a key reason as to why Newcastle have pulled away from the relegation scrap.
Despite losing their last two games, the Tyneside-based outfit had secured seven wins from their previous eight while enduring the absences of Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin and Kieran Trippier at various points.
And Brazil believes former employers Spurs should have taken a punt on securing Burn’s transfer having seen their defence look vulnerable since the turn of the year.
He told talkSPORT (March 18, 9:45 am): “Do you know who Tottenham should have bought, I think? Burn, who went to Newcastle.
“Why didn’t they take a chance on him? He’s brilliant at set-pieces, for and against, he’s not slow…
“[He’s a Newcastle fan] but surely someone should’ve got to him first.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While Burn has had a solid impact for Newcastle, you have to question whether he would have been a good fit for Spurs. Antonio Conte’s style likes players to play out the back and there are question marks on whether someone like Burn would have suited that.
