Pundit claims Spurs star may be frozen out after failed exit

Former England and Leeds United defender Danny Mills believes Tanguy Ndombele could be frozen out at Tottenham after failing to secure a move away from the club this summer.

The French midfielder sought an exit from north London this summer, making it known to Spurs he preferred a move to Germany or Spain instead.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and football director Fabio Paratici had actively looked across the market for potential suitors, but struggled to find a buyer due to Ndombele’s likely transfer fee and wages.

Ndombele joined Spurs in 2019 from Lyon for around £55 million and is currently earning £200,000 a week, making him one of the club’s highest earners.

The 24-year-old expressed his desire to leave last season too, but a similar fate met him when no one was willing to shell out the cash.

He missed the entirety of Spurs’ pre-season under Nuno Espirito Santo, with the Portuguese coach still yet to pick him in any of his match day squads so far this season.

Now, former Premier League defender Mills is concerned the midfielder could be ostracised at Spurs following a turbulent summer.

Speaking to Football Insider, Mills said: “It’s a strange one. He wasn’t really part of anyone’s plans then Mourinho outed him. Then he came back in and was Mourinho’s number one and the first on the teamsheet.

“He’s been really in and out and has divided opinion.

“He’s obviously a really talented player but from what Nuno has seen he doesn’t want him.

“He wanted to leave and the club from what they have seen couldn’t get the right deal done so it hasn’t happened.

“I think it will be a frustrating season for him. Now, it’s about waiting to see if he’s in that 25-man squad for the Premier League.”

Ndombele is currently out of options as the transfer window has only just closed. From now until January, he will need to play his way back into Nuno’s set up, which is proving to be a success without him so far. His value will only continue to reduce if he continues to remain unpicked.
