Noel Whelan has praised Tanguy Ndombele for his attitude so far this season and claimed the midfielder’s performances show that he is not planning on jumping ship.

Ndombele was linked with a move away from Tottenham after allegedly informing Nuno Espirito Santo of his desire to leave the club in the summer.

It was reported that Fabio Paratici held talks with Lyon, Juventus and Bayern Munich over potentially swapping the Frenchman for Houssem AouarWeston McKennie and Corentin Tolisso respectively.

However, Spurs were not able to find a buyer for the 24-year-old before the transfer window slammed shut and the former Lyon man has since been reinstated into the team after being absent from the matchday squad for the first few games of the season.

Whelan has suggested that the midfielder could have sulked after not getting a move away from the club and praised him for getting his head down and giving his all.

The former Leeds striker told Football Insider: “He’s (Ndombele) turned things around for himself personally.

“He has gone from asking for a transfer to putting in some decent performances in the league and Europe. This shows he’s not just jumping ship.

“He wants to be a part of the squad and he’s got the trust of the manager.

“It’s commendable. He has not downed tools as some players can often do – as we’ve seen with Rodriguez at Everton.

“It seems to me that he has done something right and given the manager that choice to pick him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that none of Europe’s top clubs wanted Ndombele in the summer might have come as a reality check for the midfielder.

Despite his obvious talent, Europe’s big-hitters were seemingly not ready to match his salary under the current economic climate.

So, even if he wants to leave Spurs in the future, the 24-year-old probably realised that he needs to buckle down and perform.
