Pundit claims Spurs will be fighting for eighth behind Wolves come end of season

Gabriel Agbonlahor doubts whether Tottenham will show enough consistency to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.

Spurs currently sit fifth in the table, three points off bitter rivals Arsenal who occupy the final Champions League place.

However, Antonio Conte’s men have played one more game than the Gunners, while both sides are set to face each other in their rearranged derby fixture penned in for the penultimate week of the campaign.

And with the scramble for position looking finely poised ahead of the run-in, former striker Agbonlahor believes Arsenal will have already sealed fourth-place by the time the fixture comes around.

He also suggested Spurs are more likely to be fighting for a top-eight spot instead and will be overtaken by the likes of Manchester United and Wolves down the line.

Agbonlahor told talkSPORT: “I understand what they’re trying to do with the excitement in the last week of the season but I think it’s going to be done before then.

“I think Arsenal will have top four before they play Spurs. So that idea is going to cost the Premier League. I feel that will be more Spurs trying to finish in the top eight.

“Wolves will finish above Spurs, Manchester United will [as well]. You think Spurs are going to be consistent until the end of the season? They haven’t been all season. I’ve got to back Arsenal.”

It is all very close around the European places so it is important that there are little to no slip-ups ahead in the final stretch.

Spurs have a pretty favourable fixture run, though, but have struggled to gain wins against sides they should be beating.

The derby is towards the end so Spurs could accumulate enough points between now and then to keep themselves in the hunt all the way down to the wire.
