Pundit claims that these three Spurs first-team stars want to leave in January

Tottenham Hotspur may be having problems on the pitch, but pundit Charlie Nicholas believes that the issues stem from situations off the pitch.

Spurs currently have three first-team stars set to leave on frees at the end of the season, Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld, and Jan Vertonghen.

Once three of the best players at Spurs and in the Premier League in general, the Tottenham lads have gone off the boil this season.

Despite this, Eriksen came up with a world-class assist on duty for Denmark this week, while Vertonghen and Aldeweireld helped Belgium to a perfect EURO 2020 qualifying campaign.

So, what is going so wrong in North London?

Nicholas claims that all three of these players want to leave the club in January. As their contracts run down in under a year, Jan, Toby, and Eriksen will be permitted to talk to non-English clubs in the new year about potential pre-contract agreements.

When asked what the biggest let down of the season has been, Nicholas said (SportingLife – as quoted by the Express): “I would say Tottenham on the whole.

“When we look back to the start of the season, we looked at Liverpool and Man City to lead by a distance, but thought Tottenham would be next.

“They spent a lot of money, got the stadium behind them, had a lot of players signing contracts and held on to Mauricio Pochettino too.

“It was a statement, but that has fallen dramatically.

“Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld used to have one of the best partnerships in the Premier League, and now is one of the worst in the Premier League.

“They want to get out in January, as does Christian Eriksen.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I do not believe that Jan Vertonghen wants to leave the club. Eriksen definitely seems to be looking for a way out, while the Alderweireld situation remains mysterious. Either way, Poch should be dropping underperforming players, even if they are big names.
