Pundit claims Tottenham star actually wanted ‘to get sent off’ against Villa

Jamie O’Hara has claimed that Cristian Romero wanted to get sent off and end his evening early against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Spurs fell to their fifth defeat of the Premier League season and their third at home, thus falling out of the Champions League places on Sunday.

Although the home side were on top for large parts of the encounter, they could not make their dominance count and conceded first yet again.

The Lilywhites were not able to demonstrate their powers of recovery this time around, with Villa putting the game beyond them with a second goal on 73 minutes.

Tottenham were without several key players for the game, with Dejan Kulusevski joining the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur, Richarlison and Lucas Moura on the sidelines before the game.

Hugo Lloris and Cristian Romero, who both missed the Brentford clash after playing in the World Cup final, came into the starting lineup, and the Frenchman ended up costing the side yet again with another poor error.

O’Hara took to social media to question whether Romero wanted to get sent off so that he did not have to deal with the mess at Tottenham.

This does not seem to be a dig at Romero but rather at the general performance of the side. However, I personally did not think there was a lot wrong with our overall display.

It was an unforced error that cost us once again and it came from Lloris this time, which perhaps served as further confirmation that the 36-year-old is now past his best.
