Pundit claims Tottenham star may have already agreed terms with another club

All indications seem to point towards Toby Alderweireld staying for another season in North London, despite having just one year remaining on his contract.

Toby was included in the pre-season tour squad of Asia and even captained the side from the start against Juventus earlier this week.

The Belgian star even claimed in a post-match interview that his focus was on starting the season with Tottenham, not on an exit (Standard).

However, Danny Mills has now claimed that Alderweireld could still leave at the last minute, with his £25m buyout clause running out on Friday (Football Insider).

He believes that if a deal does go through, the personal terms would have already been agreed between the two clubs.

Mills said: “Quite possibly. If he does, it will all be teed up already.

“Everything will be in place, personal terms. It will just be a case of crossing Ts, dotting Is, getting the medical done and it will all be done very, very quickly. I’m surprised no one has come in and triggered it, very, very surprised.”

Spurs reportedly held talks with Roma over a potential deal for Alderweireld earlier this month, but nothing came of said talks (Sky Sports).

Spurs Web Opinion:

Sounds like rubbish from Mills to me. If personal terms were already in place somewhere, why would Alderweireld make all those comments about being focused on Spurs, and why would Pochettino give him the armband against Juve? In my opinion, it looks as if he will be staying. Let’s hope they can agree a three-year extension.
