Pundit claims Tottenham star’s comments were a swipe at Daniel Levy

Noel Whelan has claimed that Harry Kane’s recent comments about his future were meant as a slight at Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

Kane did not get his desired move to Manchester City this summer, with the striker taking to social media two weeks ago to insist that he is fully focussed on the season ahead with Spurs.

Kane opened his account for the season with a brace against Pacos De Ferriera and completed the full ninety minutes in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Watford last weekend.

In an interview with talkSPORT during the international break, the England captain insisted that his conscience was clear and that he does not feel his reputation has been damaged by the transfer saga.

Whelan believes the 28-year-old is hinting that he had kept his word while the Spurs chairman had refused to do the same.

The pundit also insisted the Tottenham striker is justified in wanting to leave given the North London club’s struggles over the last two seasons.

When asked about Kane’s statement, the former Coventry City striker told Football Insider: “I don’t feel he has to make anything up to the Spurs fans really.

“He’s basically saying that his conscience is clear because he stuck to his agreement. He is basically saying that Daniel Levy didn’t.

“We know what Harry Kane is. He’s a professional. It wouldn’t have been his first option to leave Tottenham if they were still fighting for Champions League places. That’s the big issue.

“He wants to win medals and he wants them to be successful. They’ve got a great history in competitions, but it’s not happened for them.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on the reception that Kane got against Wolves, Pacos and Watford, the striker has already won the fans back over. If he starts banging in the goals, I suspect fans will be quick to forget what happened over the summer.
