Peter Schmeichel has compared Harry Kane to Eric Cantona due to his ability to influence matches even when he is not scoring goals.
Kane showcased the various facets he had to his game with the all-round performance that he delivered in the quarter-final against France on Tuesday, with the Les Blues defenders struggling to cope with the Tottenham striker’s intelligence and technical quality.
However, the evening ended in heartbreak for the 29-year-old as he failed to hit the target with his second penalty, which ultimately meant that England bowed out of the competition.
The Tottenham man has taken to social media to admit that it will take a long time to get over Saturday’s disappointment and took full responsibility for the Three Lions’ elimination.
However, many, including Gary Neville, have come to the striker’s defence, commending him for the performance he delivered and insisting that he did not deserve to miss the penalty (Gary Neville podcast)
Schmeichel has now become the latest pundit to shower praise on the England captain.

When host Richard Keys asked the Man United legend if Kane was ‘Cantona like’, the 59-year-old said on beIN SPORTS (11/12/22): “Kane is a little bit like Eric, but it was the same kind of principle. I think the work he does for the team. He changes games.”

Kane might not have Cantona’s arrogance but the Tottenham striker certainly possesses the same level of confidence that the Frenchman did, which is why he has consistently been able to prove his critics wrong over the course of his career.
That is why I have no concerns whatsoever that the 29-year-old will be able to put the heartbreak of Saturday behind him and go back to doing what he does best – scoring goals.
