Pundit deems three Spurs players ‘not good enough’ – Need replacing in January

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon are ‘not good enough’ for Tottenham Hotspur and believes the trio need to be replaced in January.

Spurs have had issues deciding on a settled defence in recent seasons – especially with the eventual phasing out of long-term defensive pair Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

However, the arrival of Antonio Conte has brought some early stability in the backline with the switch to his favoured back three which he has typically deployed at his previous employers.

The formation has benefitted both Dier and Sanchez who have featured prominently under Conte so far, but less can be said for Rodon who has played just 54 minutes under the Italian.

Reports have since emerged claiming the Wales international is keen on heading towards the exit in North London with game time coming at a premium.

Although Tottenham’s defensive line has seen improvement under Conte, former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor still believes the club needs to upgrade that department, with all three of Dier, Sanchez and Rodon to be listed for sale.

He told Football Insider: “I just don’t think Rodon is good enough, to be honest. Eric Dier I don’t think is good enough, Sanchez is not good enough.

“Spurs haven’t improved their centre-halves since Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen were there. They were good centre-halves, they were strong.

“The centre-halves they have there are not good enough. I’m sure Conte, who bases his teams on their defence, will want to fix that problem by bringing in some centre-halves.”

The Rodon situation is tricky given he has been decent when he’s played and he is at an age where he needs to be playing regularly, so a loan out may suffice. As for Dier and Sanchez, they’ve done well so far under Conte but an upgrade is still needed. They could be decent squad players, though.
