Pundit expects 28-year-old Spurs target to be in demand this summer

Mathew Upson believes that there could be a lot of interest in rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Sam Johnstone during the summer transfer window.

Tottenham’s current number one, Hugo Lloris, has been linked with a move back to Ligue 1 this summer and Johnstone is one of the names rumoured to be on Spurs’ radar as a potential replacement for the French captain.

It was reported back in March that the West Brom star could be available for a fee of around £7.5m to £10m this summer.

However, it has been revealed that the likes of West Ham, Leeds United and Manchester United are also interested in the 28-year-old, who has arguably been the Baggies’ standout performer this season.

ESPN revealed last week that while Tottenham’s interest in the West Brom number one is ‘strong’, the Hammers are currently the frontrunners for his signature.

Upson has backed several Premier League clubs to vie for Johnstone’s signature this summer.

The former West Ham man told BBC Radio 5 Live (as relayed by HITC): “He had a really strong season for West Brom, so he would be a player that I would say some Premier League clubs will be looking at.”
