Pundit explains why he expects Postecoglou to turn down Tottenham job

Both Tim Sherwood and Sam Allardyce believe that Ange Postecoglou will turn down Tottenham’s approach to remain at Celtic next season.

The speculation linking Postecoglou with a move to Spurs has been steadily gathering steam over the past few days, with some outlets now reporting that the Celtic boss is the North London club’s top target.

This includes The Sun, who suggested on Thursday that the Lilywhites might even appoint the Australian as their next head coach by next week.

The report asserted that Postecoglou was keen on taking up the challenge in N17 and that Celtic are now resigned to losing him following their Scottish Cup final on Saturday.

The outlet claimed that Tottenham will look to agree on the final details next week, with the Hoops alleged to already be on the lookout for a replacement for the former Yokohama F Marinos boss.

However, Sherwood believes that Postecoglou will want another crack at the Champions League with Celtic next season.

When asked if the 57-year-old will be at Tottenham next season, Allardyce responded on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast with a simple: “No.”

When that question was posed to Sherwood, he said: “I would say no.

“Do you know why? I think he had a disappointing time in the Champions League and I think he’ll want to have a crack at it with Celtic and it’s a huge football club.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Postecoglou might decide to remain at Celtic but at 57 years of age, he will be aware that he might not get an offer as big as the Tottenham one again, and thus might be keen to test himself in the Premier League.

The Australian has also achieved all he can at Celtic Park and I am not sure the drive to get out of the Champions League group stages would be enough of a motivating factor to keep him at Glasgow.
