Pundit explains why Spurs are only one of three sides who can sign Jack Grealish

Former Hull City striker Dean Windass has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are one of just three teams in England who can potentially sign Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.

Grealish has started this season from where he left off last campaign and is now widely recognised as one of most talented players in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old also looks set to play an important part for the Three Lions in the European Championship finals next summer.

Grealish has been a long-term target for Tottenham, with the North Londoners trying to sign him as far back as 2018.

Spurs were once again linked with a move for the midfielder during the summer (Daily Star) but he ended up remaining at Villa Park and put pen to paper on a new contract with his boyhood club.

Windass claimed that it would take an offer of £100million to sign Grealish but bizarrely suggested that Tottenham are one of the teams who could snap him up.

Speaking about the Villa star, the pundit told Football Fancast: “Yeah, in today’s market, forget about what he’s done off the field, we all make mistakes, I’ve been there and worn the t-shirt.

“But he’s a talent, local boy, he loves the club, he’s going to make mistakes he’s a young boy, he’s a young kid, and these young kids just need reminding every now and then.

“They’re on that much money now that the world is their oyster.

“Yeah, he’s been done drink driving, and now he’s paid the price, does it really hurt players nowadays that they’ve been done drink driving?

“You can afford to get a driver, it’s not as if they’ve got to get the bus.

“It’s wrong what he did, he’ll pay that price, and you’ve got to learn from it. We’ve all got learn from mistakes. I’ve been there.

“You learn from mistakes, and Dean [Smith]’s probably good for him, pull him to the side [and say] let your football do the talking and stop doing daft things off the field. But he’ll learn from that.

“But £100m, I think it was £80m before he signed his contract, he had an £80m clause in his contract.

“So £100m is a fair valuation now without a shadow of a doubt. He could go in Man City’s team tomorrow, and he’d be a good player.

“That’s the only teams he would go to, Liverpool or Man City or Tottenham.

“Manchester United would sign him tomorrow, but they won’t pay £100m.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not know what world Windass has been living for the past 20 years or so but there is no way Spurs will pay £100m for any player. We have clearly missed the boat in terms of signing Grealish as he is now out of our price range. In fact, if anyone is going to pay the kind of money that would tempt Villa to sell their talisman, I suspect it will be Manchester United, particularly after their failed Sancho pursuit during the previous transfer window.
