Pundit has heard £26m-rated Spurs-linked star is on his way to Arsenal instead

Feyenoord icon Johan Boskamp has claimed that rumoured Tottenham target Orkun Kokcu is set to join Arsenal this summer.

Kokcu has been one of the standout players in the Dutch top flight this season, having managed eight goals and three assists in the Dutch top flight, in addition to another five goal contributions in the Europa League (Transfermarkt).

The Daily Mirror reported almost a month ago that Tottenham had sent scouts to watch the 22-year-old in action this season and that they were considering making an offer for him in the summer.

The Daily Express reported around the same time that Arsenal could reignite their interest in the Feyenoord midfielder, having first looked at the player back in 2020 when he was still a teenager.

The report added that Kokcu is likely to attract plenty of interest this summer and that the Eredivisie club value the midfielder at around £26m.

Dutch reporter Marcel van der Kraan said on De Telegraaf’s Kick-Off podcast a couple of days ago that the Feyenoord star was also on the radars of both Liverpool and Manchester United.

However, Boskamp believes that Kokcu is likely to end up at the Emirates Stadium at the end of the current season.

He told RTV Rijnmond about the midfielder: “I don’t know where (Kokcu’s) ceiling is. But what the coach (Arne Slot) has done well is making him feel important. Everything goes through Kokcu.

“The way I hear it, he goes to Arsenal. They want to get a replacement for Granit Xhaka. When you hear those amounts (£35m), I don’t think he will stay with us.”

Kokcu has been outstanding in the Eredivisie over the last two years but only a few players have made the successful transition from Dutch to English football over recent years, given the difference in intensity between the two competitions.

However, a fee of around £25m-£30m entails a relatively low risk, which is why the likes of Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool might be tempted to take a punt on the midfielder.
