Pundit hints Spurs may now have the edge over Arsenal in the race for fourth

Alan Hutton has claimed that Tottenham now have all the momentum heading into the final two games of the season after brushing Arsenal aside in the North London Derby.

The stakes were huge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday in what was understandably billed as one of the biggest North London derbies in decades.

Antonio Conte’s men needed all three points to give themselves a fighting chance of qualifying for the Champions League while a draw would have seen the Gunners place one foot in the top four.

Not only did Spurs get the win they needed but they put in a performance of authority, with Arsenal capitulating in the first half.

The Lilywhites will now have an opportunity to go two points clear of their local rivals with a win over Burnley on Sunday, with Mikel Arteta’s men set to travel to St James’ Park on Monday.

Hutton believes the nature of Tottenham’s win means they have the upper hand heading into the final two games of the season.

The former Spurs right-back said on BBC Radio 5 live (12/05/2022 – 21:50): “The word is momentum. Off the back of this result, Tottenham’s confidence is sky-high.

“From an Arsenal point of view at this moment in time, they are at a low. They have to go away to Newcastle and that is a difficult place to go at the best of times.

“At this moment in time, Spurs look good. They are chasing Arsenal down.”

Spurs Web Opinion

A dispassionate look at our form over the past couple of months would suggest that we are more than capable of falling to a 1-0 defeat to Burnley. So, the players cannot afford to get carried away with yesterday’s result and need to show the same fight on Sunday.
