Pundit issues warning about mentality of three rumoured Tottenham summer targets

Tottenham are reportedly targeting cheaper options this summer due to the financial hit they have taken as a result of the coronavirus pandemic (Mirror).

It is thus not surprising that the North Londoners have been linked with players from the likes of Norwich City and Bournemouth, with potential bargain deals to be had following their relegation to the Championship.

However, Chris Sutton has warned clubs against pursuing Norwich stars, Max Aarons, Ben Godfrey and Jamal Lewis, all of whom have been linked with a move to Spurs (The Athletic, Express, and BILD).

The trio, as well as the likes of Todd Cantwell, Emiliano Buendia and Teemu Pukki, seem to have done their reputations no harm despite the Canaries having been rooted to the bottom of the table for the majority of the campaign.

Sutton suggested that Norwich’s poor showing might point towards weakness in mentality with Aarons, Godfrey, and Lewis.

However, the former Blackburn striker was quite complementary of Bournemouth midfielder David Brooks, who is also reportedly on Tottenham’s radar this summer (Evening Standard).

The pundit told The Daily Mail: “Norwich’s players didn’t do themselves any favours in Project Restart as they became only the third club in Premier League history to lose 10 consecutive games.

“The likes of Max Aarons, Ben Godfrey and Jamal Lewis are clearly talented but when push came to shove they didn’t stand up to the challenge. That would worry me.

“But I like David Brooks at Bournemouth. He gave Eddie Howe’s side an extra edge in attack. There will be Premier League clubs coming in for him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There are obvious question marks over the likes of Aarons, Godfrey and Lewis as all three players are still quite raw. It is difficult to predict how they would develop and so those moves would have an element risk to them. I believe Brooks’ class is apparent but I do not see where he fits in at Spurs. If we are to raid the relegated sides for anyone, I hoped it would be Nathan Ake but he seems to be on his way to Manchester City if reports are to be believed. I also believe Callum Wilson could potentially be a smart addition to our squad.
