Pundit labels Spurs star ‘clumsy and incompetent’ after international display

Colombian pundit Ivan Mejia Alvarez has taken to Twitter to take a dig at Tottenham Hotspur centre-half Davinson Sanchez after his performance for Colombia against Paraguay.

Alvarez told his 500,000 followers that Sanchez was ‘clumsy’ and ‘incompetent’ after the 25-year-old started the World Cup qualifier on Sunday.

Sanchez has also been embroiled in controversy away from the pitch after travelling to link up with his international squad despite the Premier League advising against it.

Sanchez, alongside Argentine duo Giovani Lo Celso and Christian Romero could be fined by the club when they return to North London later this month.

Tottenham decided not to release their South American players for international duty due to the countries being on the ‘red list’, meaning they would have to quarantine and miss vital Premier League matches upon their return. Unfortunately, the players went anyway.

Five minutes into Brazil vs Argentina on Sunday, the game got called off in a chaotic fashion because of allegations from Brazil’s health authorities that the Spurs pair entered the country illegally by not isolating in the country for 14 days upon arrival.

Sanchez did not have this same drama, but his yellow card in the game against Paraguay means he is suspended for the next match and Alvarez certainly believes the defender was at fault for the goal Colombia conceded on Sunday.

Alvarez said: “Write it down to Davinson. They made a tunnel that left him painted: clumsy and incompetent. Unfair result, those who had did not take advantage of them and gave away the goal.”

The situation with these three is an intriguing one. It’s so fresh and I haven’t quite made my mind up on how I feel yet.

But in terms of Ivan Mejia Alvarez comments, most Spurs fans have said the exact same thing at some point – albeit the 25-year-old putting in some solid performances this season.
