Pundit makes big Harry Kane claim about Tottenham’s Heung-min Son

Noel Whelan has claimed that Son Heung-Min is ‘just as important as Harry Kane’.

Son’s quick-fire double against Norwich on the final day of the season was enough for him to scoop his first Premier League golden boot (BBC Sport).

Spurs’ number seven finished level with Mohamed Salah on 23 goals, but with no penalty goals, as well as superior goal conversion and shot accuracy than any other player within the top ten (BBC Sport).

The 29-year-old has truly had an outstanding year in front of goal and former Leeds striker Whelan was full of praise for the South Korean.

He told Football Insider: “If anyone deserves a Golden Boot, it’s Son – isn’t it? He’s been so consistent. Not just over this season, but over an incredible career in the Premier League.

“He’s so important to Tottenham. At times, he’s taken up the mantle and the leadership – especially when Kane wasn’t quite firing on all cylinders.

“Can you think of life without Son if you’re Spurs? Absolutely not – he’s just as important as Kane.

“His attitude and work rate is second-to-none. He’s right up there with some of the best finishers in the world, 100%. He’s just the all-around striker.”

Spurs’ forward line had an excellent year. A slow start to the season for Harry Kane changed after Antonio Conte arrived at N17 and the England captain eventually finished fourth top goal scorer in the league with 17 goals and a further nine assists (BBC Sport).

Meanwhile, 22-year-old Dejan Kulusevski also adapted perfectly to the demands of the Premier League after his January switch from Juventus. The Swedish international managed five goals and eight assists in just 18 league games for Spurs (TransferMarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

One thing is for certain, Sonny deserves every ounce of praise that he is getting right now. The loyalty he showed to sign a new four-year deal at the club (Sky Sports) when there were doubts about Harry Kane’s future and Nuno-Espirito Santo was in the managerial hot-seat shows that he truly loves the club. We are witnessing a Premier League great in his prime.
