Pundit makes Conte prediction that will be ‘exciting for Tottenham fans’

Noel Whelan is confident that Antonio Conte will be handed plenty of funds to improve the Tottenham squad in the summer.

The January transfer window saw four first-team players leaving Spurs – three of whom were loaned out. Spurs only made two new additions in the form of Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.

Conte admitted last week that it is strange for a club to let four players leave mid-season but suggested it had to be done due to mistakes that were made in the past (Football.London).

According to Alasdair Gold, the Italian is pleased with the business that Spurs did in January, although he would have preferred to bring more players in.

Whelan believes the 52-year-old will want to strengthen the Spurs squad significantly in the summer and insisted Conte would not have accepted the job unless the North London club’s hierarchy had promised significant investment into the squad.

The former Leeds United striker told Football Insider: “Do I think he’s happy with just two? Absolutely not. I think he’d have liked the four he wanted.

“However, we know the January window is a difficult window to do that. Two out of four, 50 per cent, is not bad.

“The summer, that’s where I think their big business is going to be done. There are probably targets they couldn’t have got now anyway.

“The summertime is the big one for Tottenham, I think that’s where they’ve got to get it right. Conte will go all out to try and get the men that he wants.

“I think it’s going to be exciting for Tottenham fans. Conte will have the money, he won’t have taken that role on without the guarantees because he’s a winner.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The summer certainly promised to be one of the most exciting windows Spurs have had in recent years. However, I would expect the focus to be on quality additions rather than quantity. I would expect Conte to insist on three top-class signings rather than five decent ones.
